It’s another tequila sunrise
Starin’ slowly ‘cross the sky, said goodbye
He was just a hired hand
Workin’ on the dreams he planned to try
The days go by…
The Kaikoura sunrise isn’t exactly a “tequila sunrise” but you get the idea–incredible pre-dawn colors. When a day starts like that, it is hard to go wrong.
Kaikoura is a peninsula off the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is not that far north of Christchurch but the curvy road between the two will certainly slow you down. The town is surrounded by water, mountains, and incredible sunrises and sunsets.
We stayed at the Kaikoura Boutique Hotel. Nice friendly place with style, an incredible breakfast, and the sunrise–well, judge that one for yourself (these photos have not been edited at all). Since I am on a roll with positive reviews, we ate dinner at Thai Siam. Excellent food, friendly people, nice atmosphere. Don’t skip the seafood panang curry or seafood tom ka gai. Both were incredible and chocked full of fresh seafood.
After our bright and early sunrise photo session and breakfast, we spent much of the day walking/hiking/tramping the peninsula loop trail–and taking a few photos of course.
On the way back to Christchurch (yep, we are actually working here), we stopped in the Greystone Winery in the Waipara Valley for a quick tasting before they closed for the day. Exceptional wine, nice people and yet another nice sunset making the vineyards shine. Do you see a trend here?
